Boston Terrier
Tuxedo coat, bat ears, and big-city manners. The Boston Terrier is America's own flat-faced original — bright, dapper, and convinced every stranger is a friend who hasn't said hi yet.
Face of the Breed
When Brachys launches, Boston Terrier owners post photos and the community votes one dog the Face of the Breed every week. The first champion will be immortalized here, on this page, permanently.

Temperament
Lively, bright, and people-oriented. Bostons are famously easy to live with: friendly with strangers, good with kids, quick to learn, and small enough to go everywhere. They have a comedian streak and a surprising amount of athleticism for their size. They want to be in the room with you — ideally on you.
Living with a Boston Terrier
One of the best apartment dogs there is. A couple of brisk walks and a play session cover their exercise needs. They are sensitive to extremes of both heat and cold — a sweater in winter, shade and water in summer.
Health
Boston Terriers are brachycephalic, though many are less severely affected than Bulldogs or Pugs. Their large, prominent eyes are the bigger everyday concern: corneal ulcers and eye injuries are common, and they are prone to cataracts. Patellar luxation (a slipping kneecap) and deafness in some lines also occur. Heat caution still applies — a flat face is a flat face.
Care and grooming
Minimal grooming: a weekly once-over with a soft brush. Check and gently wipe around the eyes regularly. Keep play away from thorny brush and anything at eye height. Dental care matters in small breeds — brush a few times a week.
Frequently asked questions
How long do Boston Terriers live?
Typically 11 to 13 years, and healthy Bostons regularly reach their mid-teens with good care.
Are Boston Terriers easy to train?
Yes — they are bright, eager to please, and food-motivated. They respond best to short, upbeat sessions and are a popular first dog for exactly this reason.
Why are Boston Terriers called the American Gentleman?
The nickname comes from their tuxedo-like black-and-white markings and their famously polite, friendly temperament. The breed was developed in Boston in the late 1800s and is one of the few breeds created entirely in the United States.
Do Boston Terriers have breathing problems?
They can. Bostons are a brachycephalic breed, and some snore or snort, especially in heat or excitement. Many Bostons are mildly affected, but heat and overexertion deserve the same caution as any flat-faced dog.
Are Boston Terriers good with kids and other dogs?
Generally excellent with both. They are sturdy enough for play, gentle by nature, and typically social with other dogs when introduced properly.
